PUBLISHER’S CORNER –Communicating with each other. Easy? Maybe not!

Actually we already knew describing a hood is difficult. Manufacturers use several different descriptive names. The article, Kitchen Hood Performance in Food Service Operations listed several terms unfamiliar to us and referred to the ACGIH or the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. The ACGIH in 2002 decided to describe in a very simple manner what a wall hood should be called. They gave it the acronym of HAW or hood against wall.

While the term, HAW is a relatively new one, we had not heard it used before and wondered how many of you use it or are familiar with the acronym? We therefore, decided to try a simple survey to get some feedback from a cross section of you. If you have not done so, please return to one of the previous articles in this newsletter and send an email to us using the hotlinks provided.
