The Melink Corporation made
a number of announcements in its Winter 2005 Fresh Air Bulletin.
Their tremendous growth in 2004 witnessed a doubling of staff.
In order to accommodate growth, a groundbreaking was held
on December 9, 2004 in Cincinnati for a new 30,000 square
foot complex. As befits their bulletin banner name, Fresh
Air, this building will be constructed using energy-efficient
practices that are at the forefront of the green building
movement. UP YOUR STACK™.com offers our congratulations
to Melink on your growth and contributions to the CKV industry.
In addition to creating the Intelli-Hood control system,
Melink also is a leader in the Test & Balance (T&B)
industry and provides commissioning services for new and
existing buildings.
Brinker International has contracted with
Melink to rebalance more than 100 existing stores as they
work through a replacement HVAC program. The basis of the
replacement program is to save energy with new and more efficient
roof top units while creating proper distribution of all
supply, return and outside air flows. Fan energy savings
are expected to be substantial for Brinker.
In addition, all short circuit hoods will be rebalanced as
exhaust only. Included are Chili’s and Romano’s
Macaroni Grill.
Target Stores has signed up to test and
balance five new stores as a test program. All five stores
should now be completed as of this newsletter. Melink is
being incorporated into Targets corporate T&B specifications.
According to Melink, Target liked the idea that with Melink,
there would be only one number to call for T&B work as
well as a single reporting method. (As a personal authors
note, we can attest to the fact that Target loves single
point responsibility. We personally enjoyed a seventeen year
relationship with Target providing complete design to installation
services to over 1000 Target retail stores and HQ facilities.)
TGI Friday’s was another new national
client established in late 2004. TGI Friday’s was looking
for a firm capable of handling their T&B needs nationwide.
Melink is now being specified in all corporate stores for
the year 2005. Work began at the first store last October.
McDonald’s is another major to take
a look at Melink’s Intelli-Hood controls. Frank
Kohut, McD’s Corporate Mechanical Engineer
for Worldwide Development and a member of ASHRAE’s
TC-5.10 Technical Committee insisted that Intelli-Hood controls
be included into a flexible ventilation platform. This new
3 rd floor corporate restaurant is located at the headquarters
in Oak Brook, IL. With Intelli-Hood controls, McD is using
the new minimum capture and containment thresholds for air
volume that can adjust to varying cooking configurations
and save energy in the process. Another plus is that since
the exhaust fan runs at a slower speed during slow times,
noise transmission is reduced through the office area.
