FIRE SAFETY – Illinois Chiefs announce standardized Fire Alarm Form

In his letter of March 24, 2005, Chief Patrick J. Kenny, President of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association has written the following:

“The Illinois Fire Chiefs Association is pleased to announce the endorsement of the first Fire Alarm Submittal Form. This form was developed by the IFCA/Fire Protection and Alarm Industry Partnership to standardize the minimum requirements for submitting a Fire Alarm System Plan to the Authority Having Jurisdiction.

The IFCA/Fire Protection & Alarm Industry Partnership (IFCA/FP & AIP) is a subcommittee of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, Northern Illinois Fire Inspectors Association, Illinois Fire Inspectors Association, Northern Illinois Sprinkler Advisory Board, Illinois Electronic Security Association and the Engineering Community.

This Partnership has been meeting since April of 2003 to promote Life Safety between the Fire Service and their colleagues in the public safety, fire alarm and sprinkler industry. There are other forms currently being developed by this committee and the committee will seek the endorsement of all involved parties prior to their approval and publication.

The Fire Alarm Plan Submittal Form’s intent was to put every alarm company who installs fire alarm systems on the same page and allows the AHJ to review the plans under the same set of requirements.

Copies of this form will soon be available from the local Fire Prevention Bureau or may down load a generic form from the IFCA web site at: http://www.illinoisfirechiefs.org/news.asp?id=37

If you have any specific questions please contact IFCA Codes and Standards Committee Chairperson Assistant Chief Ed Murphy at the Roberts Park Fire Department at (708) 598-6752.”
