CODES & STANDARDS
– IMC Code Revsion M60 creates interesting dialogue.

Tom Johnson reports that industry interest is unusually strong regarding the proposed change to the IMC code. This proposed change will require interlocks on all cooking appliances to automatically activate the exhaust fan whenever cooking operations occur. The deadline for comment has been extended to June 17, 2005. Access a public comment form at http://www.iccsafe.org/cs/codes/publicforms.html. For more information click here for the Full Story.

OWNERS & OPERATORS – Demand Ventilation study reports positive results!
A PG&E report prepared by Fisher-Nickel, Inc., has just released a fascinating case study of demand ventilation technology at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco. If you are interested in how this hotel is now savings $20,000 a year with a 62% reduction in electrical costs, follow the link for the full case study. See how the payback was less than a year with repeatable yearly savings projected. This is must read if you want to reduce expenses. http://www.fishnick.com/demandventilation/

NEW TECHNOLOGY – The self-balancing hood has arrived.
A recently announced breakthrough named “The Centurion” by its developer has been introduced to take charge of your new exhaust system at start up. Using a built-in test and balance port, this unique new approach to balancing an exhaust hood system employs a pressure signal to set the fan speed to run at the desired air flow rate.
