CODES – ICC and IAPMO HAVE ANNOUNCED JOINT DISCUSSIONS! In a news release dated August 23, 2005, the International Code Council (ICC) announced that they are involved in formal discussions with IAPMO, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials. The intent is to pursue a single set of plumbing and mechanical codes. UP YOUR STACK™ applauds this move by both parties to consolidate the two sets of codes. Beth Lorenzini writes about the dangers of using outdated dry chemical fire protection systems in the August issue of Foodservice Equipment Reports Magazine. She stresses the need to conform to UL300 in order to purchase insurance and states “Granddad’s already gone”. CODES – Join us at the Detroit ICC Conference on 9/27/05. UP YOUR STACK™ is presenting a two hour program at the ICC Education Program on Tuesday, September 27, 2005. The program is titled “IT’S JUST A BOX, ISN’T IT?” The program addresses code and plan check professionals and what they should know about CKV or commercial kitchen ventilation. Our presenters include Jay Parikh, P.E. who will address codes and standards specific to CKV, Rich Swierczyna, P.E. who will demonstrate capture and containment testing and Don Fisher, P.E. who will discuss the real world challenges that CKV operations face plus the fundamentals of design. NEW - BFCA offers Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Special Topic Series BFCA, the Building & Fire Code Academy located in Hoffman Estates, IL in partnership with Compliance Solutions International has announced a new two day special topic class. ASHRAE - Testing and Balancing a New Restaurant Exhaust System The current ASHRAE JOURNAL includes an article written by Steve Melink.
