ICC – New Fire Marshall Certification Announced by ICC!
Tom Lariviere is the Fire Chief for the city of Madison, Mississippi as well as the Chair of the International Fire Code Council. In a new release on August 23, 2006 he proudly announced, “At long last, we have a national standard for fire marshal competence.” Click here for details.

UK Arson Investigation – Check Out the website for the International Association of Arson Investigators in London!
Arson investigator chapter members here in the US might want to check out and see what our neighbors are doing across the pond. The UK Chapter has a strong website that deserves a look to see what issues they are addressing and what training they are providing to their members. Click here for a direct link.

NFPA – Why be Concerned if Cooking Equipment is Correctly Placed?
NFPA96 – Section12.1.2.3 and NFPA 17A – Section 5.6.4 both deal with the issue of positioning equipment in the location it was designed to be. This is important so that the cooking equipment is under the fire nozzle it was designed for and subsequently installed under. Click here for a link to available equipment to meet this code. You will need to register but there is other good information on this site.

ICC – Failure to Merge Mechanical Code with IAPMO Issue Not Dead!
Members of the manufacturing community are still upset that the ICC called off promising talks with IAPMO to merge their two mechanical codes for the betterment of all parties concerned. The ICC stance does not allow industry a vote on code matters claiming that industry cannot be trusted. And yet, code officials who maintain the power to pass the codes are free from any liability. CARBON MONOXIDE – Illinois Enacts Carbon Monoxide Detector Act!
A new law effective January 1, 2007 requires that every dwelling unit will be required to have at least one approved carbon monoxide alarm in operating condition within 15 feet of every room used for sleeping purposes. Owners are responsible for supplying and installing the alarms, while tenants are responsible for battery testing and replacement after moving in. Click here for the complete text of Public Act 094-0741.

CKV DESIGN – Making a Choice Between Overhang or Increased Air Volume!
Are you a designer who is concerned about increasing the width or front to back size of a CKV hood? The volume of air to be exhausted is based on the fact of it being specified as a listed hood or a non-listed hood. Why does that make a difference? Click here.

WILL COUNTY – UP YOUR STACK Invited to Address Health Officials!
Last week, UP YOUR STACK and our partner, Compliance Solutions International Inc. spoke to 60 AHJ officials from the Will County Environmental Health Department in Joliet, Illinois at their invitation.
