From previous UP YOUR STACK articles, you know that the City of Chicago Building Code ignored listed hoods when they totally redeveloped the Mechanical Code in 2003. Recently, the City approved a listed hood installation at the University of Chicago. Click here for more details.
SAN FRANCISCO – Industry States Position at Bay Area Meetings!
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) recently held meetings in mid-November to present a proposed rule that would control emissions from charbroilers which we agree is a good idea. ICC – SMARTcodes™ Unveiled to Automate Compliance Checking!
A new computer program was announced on November 1, 2006 by the International Code Council. Called SMARTcodes™, it is a system to allow AHJ’s to check a real building plan for code compliance to the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. Click here for more information.
LEED – Harvard Dining Service Adopts LEEDS Energy Conservation Design!
FES Magazine’s Contributing Editor Lisa White recently wrote about Harvard University’s Dining Service successful attempt to become one of the first to achieve special recognition. They received a LEED Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. All designers should pay special attention to the innovation and detail surrounding this project. HOOD PERFORMANCE – Fisher-Nickel Video Tells How to Improve Your Hood Performance!
Fisher-Nickel in conjunction with the CKV Laboratory has produced a short video showing owners how to make a simple adjustment to their cooking equipment lineup that can produce amazing exhaust results at little cost. Titled “Push ‘em Back”, it quickly explains how and why closing the gap at the rear of equipment can dramatically increase hood performance by increasing hood overhang at the front. Click here.
