UP
YOUR STACK™.com has posted information to the Codes & Standards
database this month that most people dealing with commercial
kitchen ventilation have never seen before. How can we make
such a broad statement? Easy.
Codes and Standards are difficult to locate, even in today’s
world of internet access. People are confused by the myriad
of different organizations involved. It is difficult when
attempting to resolve a code and standards question or issue,
which organization to look at. Should you be looking at UL
or NFPA? Is it a code and standards or testing and certification
issue? How about ICC codes, where do they fit in? Should
I be looking at ASHRAE? And there are many more organizations
that are CKV related?
The focus of UP YOUR STACK™ has been one of education
and resource development. That focus has been to develop
a series of resource databases that provide complete data
for you when seeking answers to commercial kitchen ventilation
questions (CKV). By you, we mean just that. No matter if
you are a designer, an engineer, a consultant or architect,
a contractor or developer, a manufacturer or a dealer or
are actually part of the authorities having jurisdiction
(AHJ), this new resource is available and easy to use.
December marks the month when we introduce databases for
this first group of organizations. The four organizations
listed represent a large majority of information that most
of us have attempted to look for, understand and use in our
everyday pursuit of doing our job. The four organizations
are UL, NFPA, ICC and ASHRAE. Several more organizations
will be added in early 2005. When they are populated with
information, combined they will comprise the only industry
resource of its kind. These future listings will include
AMCA, ASTM, CSA, NSF, SMACNA and ULC.
Each and every code or standard pertaining to CKV is listed
giving its number or designation, followed by its title and
a brief but comprehensive scope. The current edition or publication
date follows that with two additional items of information.
We identify any errata or revisions issued that affect the
original. Finally, a Remarks column provides information
as to any anticipated revisions or committee review process.
