Up Your Stack
PUBLISHER’S CORNER – A clarification to previous Chicago Code date.

In a letter to UP YOUR STACK™, Mr. Anthony McGuire, Chairman, Mechanical Code Working Group points out that the Chicago Mechanical Code Requirements were passed by the City Council on July 9, 2003. That coincides with the date at the bottom of the documents and is a correct statement.

UP YOUR STACK™ based its information and date on a page in the City of Chicago’s website, titled Updated Mechanical Code in Effect. The first line reads “Effective July 28, 2004, the new Mechanical Code is in effect and should be used exclusively…..”

We believe that although the City Council passed the document in 2003, the fact the public notification is dated over one year later takes precedence.

In our response to Mr. McGuire on December 6, 2004 we volunteered our services to assist in any updates that may be addressed by the working group prior to going to the City Council for review. No indication has been made to date as to what issues will be considered or if in fact, listed hoods will be considered at that time.
